Local-first by design: your work stays in your browser, and nothing is transmitted unless you choose to export it.
Thinking OS is a non-commercial research prototype. This document describes how the prototype actually behaves today. It is not legal advice, and it makes no claims that the repository does not support.
Thinking OS is local-first. The pilot has no user accounts and no application server that stores learner data. What you do is kept in your own browser and never leaves your device unless you deliberately export it.
What is stored, and where
- Your learning evidence and reflections are stored in your browser (localStorage) on your device only.
- Your appearance and language preferences are stored the same way, so the interface remembers them.
- There is no advertising, no third-party analytics, no tracking pixels and no behavioural profiling.
The research export
A pilot session can produce a research export. It is designed to be privacy-preserving:
- The export is pseudonymous — it identifies a session, not a named person.
- It is generated on your device and handed to you as a file. It is not silently uploaded anywhere.
- What happens to an exported file afterwards is governed by the specific study you took part in, not by this prototype.
Your control
Because everything lives in your browser, you are in control: clearing the site’s local storage (or using the in-app reset) permanently removes your local landscape from this device. There is no copy on our side to delete, because there is no server.
